The Street Smarts had the honor of visiting tech giant, LinkedIn on Friday, April 5, 2019. It was a beautiful day in the city and the ED Michael Campbell and his team of interns descended on LinkedIn-SF at 222 Second Street in San Francisco. We were blocks away from the new Salesforce Tower, the new transportation hub, and from Moscone Center.
Spirits were high for our visit and our hosts at LinkedIn did not disappoint. We were met in the lobby by our LinkedIn connection, Jay Singh, Learning Solution Consultant. Board Director, Jack Z. Sun, CFA had set up a meeting for The Street Smarts network of family and friends including Penserra and NASP-SF. We had an in-depth conversation about the benefits of utilizing their platform. As anticipated, The TSS team posed for pictures in front of the LinkedIn logo and captured our first memory. Everyone signed in before we took the elevator to the 17th floor of the LinkedIn tower. We promised that we would not steal any trade secrets!
When we arrived on the 17th floor, the elevator opened up to one of the coolest cafeteria and recreational space that we had ever seen. There were hundreds of employees and their friends milling around and having a good time. Needless to say, it was filled with millennials from top to bottom. The employees don’t pay for their meals. They have a gym among other amenities for their staff. It was an awesome experience. We ate our full of ice cream bars, orange sherbert, and other frosty delicacies.
After milling around we all went out on the veranda and were able to see for miles. Our host Jay shared many stories about the culture of LinkedIn. He shared with us many anecdotes of his experience working at LinkedIn. He had only been there for 9 months and was loving it.
We also were met by Devin Banerjee, CFA, Senior Financial Service Editor. I and some of the interns met Devin on Wednesday at the PRMIA Fintech presentation in San Francisco. He shared with us that he used to work for Bloomberg News before coming to LinkedIn to cover financial matters for LinkedIn on their on-line portal. He shared valuable insights that the interns appreciated.
The group again posed for pictures in front of the LinkedIn logo with the breathtaking backdrop of the San Francisco Bay in the background. An excellent day was had by all and we want to thank Devin and Jay for spending time with us and showing us around and “dropping” some knowledge.
